How Vellum works

  1. Create a private profile

    Sign up with a phone number or email — no password. You choose your photos, what your profile says, and how much of it is visible before a match.

  2. Get verified

    Everyone confirms a phone or email and passes a selfie check that matches their face to their photos. Men also complete a Respect Check before they can reach anyone.

  3. Decide who can see you

    Show your full photo, a blurred photo, or reveal it only after a match. You are invisible until you choose otherwise, and you can change your mind at any time.

  4. Meet people near you

    Vellum shows an approximate distance — rounded on your own phone to about five kilometres. Your exact location is never sent to us and never stored.

Common questions

How does Vellum keep me invisible?

Your profile is not shown to anyone until you choose to be seen, and you pick how much is visible: full photo, blurred photo, or a photo revealed only after you both match. Blocking someone removes you from each other permanently.

How does verification work?

Every member confirms a phone number or email address, then takes a selfie that is matched against their profile photos, so the person in the pictures is the person using the account. Men additionally complete a Respect Check before they can send anyone a request.

Does Vellum show my exact location?

No. Your position is rounded on your own device to a cell of roughly five kilometres before anything is sent, and only that coarse cell reaches our servers. Other members see an approximate distance such as "3 km away" — never a point on a map, an address, or a live location.

Is Vellum free, and who runs it?

Creating a profile and using the core features is free. Vellum is operated by Circulo Vellum S.L., a company based in Madrid, Spain — the address, phone number and support mailboxes are published on the contact page.

How is Vellum different from a normal dating app?

Vellum is a premium private club. Three things: visibility is off by default instead of on, verification happens before contact instead of after a report, and messages are screened for scams and harassment as they are written. The trade-off is that Vellum asks more of you before you can reach anyone.
